ABSTRACT

The genus Tagetes is a member of the Asteraceae (Compositae) family and consists of over 30 species native from Arizona and New Mexico to Argentina. 3 , 4 The garden marigold in North America is usually T. patula, T. erecta, or hybrids between the two resulting in triploid marigolds. 5 T. lucida and T. tenuifolia are used much more in Europe than in North America as bedding plants but not to the extent of T. patula and T. erecta.
