ABSTRACT

Viburnum L., a member of the Caprifoliaceae, is a genus of some 225 species. Plants are upright shrubs or small trees. Viburnums are widely distributed in North America and Europe, and are most abundant and diverse in eastern Asia. Their distribution also extends into the Andes of South America, the mountains of Central America, and Malaysia. The genus is generally divided into nine sections based principally on fruit and leaf characteristics. These sections are Viburnum (Lantana), Pseudotinus, Pseudopulus, Lentago, Odontotinus, Thyrsoma, Tinus, Opulus, and Megalotinus. 1 , 2 , 13
