ABSTRACT
For most corporations worldwide, the move to distributed systems has been both beneficial and problematic. A distributed system’s ability to provide data to end users on a timely basis has greatly improved service levels. However, when distributed data is to be channeled through complex and varied network configurations, industry has been hard-pressed both to design and to manage these new systems. Moreover, as the bills are paid for these efforts, it is becoming increasingly clear that the costs associated with client/server technology are much higher than originally estimated. This chapter discusses solutions for managing today’s distributed network environment, focusing on the implementation of single sign-on, password synchronization, and the authentication server.
