ABSTRACT
During the 1980s, distributed processing was performed by a client using files and programs stored on a server. Today, distributed processing is split between the server and client to offer desktop power, more efficient network resource use, and better control of network traffic. As these open systems grow in importance, supporting them becomes a networkwide process as opposed to a node-based operation.
