ABSTRACT

Although the pistachio has been known throughout recorded history, relatively little technical information concerning its morphology, physiology, and growth and development, in general, has been forthcoming. Along with the establishment of a pistachio industry in California beginning about 1970 came the need for fundamental, as well as cultural, information with regard to this unusual tree and its fruit. The limited information set forth here, therefore, is that which has been developed primarily, but not exclusively, during the past decade.
