ABSTRACT

The term “plums” includes several species of Prunus. The most commonly grown species are P. domestica L. (the European plum) and P. salicina Lindl. (the Japanese plum). Most investigations on plum fruit development deal with these two species. Of minor importance as a source of edible fruits are P. insititia L. (Damson plum), used only for the production of jellies, P. cerasifera, Ehrh. (Myrobalan plum), P. americana, Marsh, and several other species of American origin.
