ABSTRACT
In the early 20th century Cannon 1 recognized that, under stressory conditions, peristalsis in the dog stomach is intensified, which was subsequently related to the sympathetic nervous system, i.e., to the substance synthesized by this system. Upon being semipurified it was termed sympathin.
