ABSTRACT

Most environmental problems and controversies are a case of one side attempting to drive a large truck over the interests and sensibilities of the other side. Environmental negotiations begin when one side believes that it has a problem with the current behavior, or the anticipated future behavior, of the opposing side. No healthy human being likes to be run over by a large truck, environmentally speaking or otherwise. The shape and the size of the truck that threatens reader depends a great deal on their point of view. As with beauty and other abstract concepts, environmental threats are very much in the mind of the beholder. Most environmental negotiators do a good job of discovering the size and shape of the environmental truck that is about to run over them. Environmental problems and confrontations are caused by and directed by certain specific prime movers.
