ABSTRACT

Windows Distributed interNet Applications (Windows DNA) integrates the personal computer standard, the Internet, and legacy infrastructures by enabling computers to interoperate and cooperate equally well across corporate and public networks. With the announced Microsoft Windows DNA architecture, the Microsoft Corporation has created a framework that allows businesses to easily build new systems that take advantage of the capabilities of the personal computer and the opportunities presented by the Internet while integrating with existing systems. The chapter outlines how a new breed of applications can be delivered in retail banking using Windows DNA and the new Windows DNA for Financial Services (Windows DNA FS) while using existing systems and implementing “best-of-breed” solutions. The Windows DNA FS framework defines three logical layers. Each layer provides the services that allow financial institutions to build the applications that meet their business requirements. The three services equate to the three tiers in the Windows DNA architecture: User Interface and Navigation, Business Process, and Integrated Storage.
