ABSTRACT

The broad genre of wireless applications and devices from simple personal digital assistants (PDAs) to advanced software for electronic messaging will provide financial companies a special edge to compete, as well as to achieve many core objectives. This chapter focuses on the unfolding of wireless technologies in securities, insurance, and banking; the pathways to implementing a wireless infrastructure; and potential implementations in the areas of two-way paging, electronic messaging, and other future market applications. It provides a brief overview of wireless hardware and software, with the exception of cellular, PCS, or smart phone technologies. This information should serve as a basic guide as to essential classifications regarding a broad range of wireless products, including: handheld PCs (HPCs)/PDAs, laptop and notebook computers, one- and two-way pagers, and ruggedized terminals. Wireless technology is purely a different medium through which we can push voice, data, and video transmissions.
