ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with stormwater pollution transport on a local scale have been carried out in Sweden since the middle of the 1970s. It discusses pollution transport in Sweden through stormwater runoff is of great significance for many inland receiving waters, and thus must be considered when measures for water quality enhancements. The chapter provides to quantify the total pollution transport to Swedish coastal waters in connection with stormwater runoff. The calculated stormwater pollution transport was compared with the contribution from other pollution sources in Sweden such as agriculture, forestry, industry, and urban areas. In order to quantify the pollution transport to Swedish coastal waters in connection with stormwater runoff, calculations were carried out for each county separately. The importance of the pollution transport by stormwater for metals is more difficult to asses, since reliable estimates of the transport of metals from Sweden to the coastal waters are lacking to a large extent.
