ABSTRACT

Proper sampling and appropriate analysis of waste materials is often critical to regulatory compliance. Sampling and analysis of waste materials for the four hazardous waste characteristics is usually necessary for waste materials not meeting the listing descriptions. However, there are several other possible reasons for devising a waste sampling and analysis plan. Of course, the analytical parameters of concern will vary with the specific goal of the sampling and analysis plan. This chapter discusses some of the main reasons for analyzing waste samples, as well as some basic elements of a sound waste sampling and analysis program.
