Morethan4000flavonoidstructuresarenowknown,andtheidentificationofnewcompoundsand thedistributionbothofnewandpreviouslyknowncompoundscontinuetobeactivetopicsin flavonoidresearch.1Moreover,researchonthechemistry,metabolism,biologicalfunctions,and medicinalimportanceofflavonoidscontinuestodominatethestudyofplantsecondarycompounds inthe20thcentury.2Thesignificanceoftheresearchnichethatthisclassofcompoundsoccupies hasinspiredmanybook-lengthmanualsandreviewsaboutflavonoids. 110Thepurposeofthisarticle, therefore,istosummarizesomeoftheflavonoidresearchwehavebeendoing,ratherthantoreview thealreadywell-coveredliteratureonthesecompounds.
