Proteins are synthesized possessing amino acid sequences (protein primary structure) via the translation of codons (specific nucleotide triplets) in mRNA by ribosomes, complexes of ribosomal (r)-RNA, and protein (ribonucleoprotein). The (r)-RNA is transiently associated with mRNA, as are initiation, elongation, and termination factors. Translation begins with binding of the ribosome to mRNA.
