Biotechnologyhasopenedupnewpossibilitiesconcerningtheapplicationofbeneficial bacteriatothesoilforthepromotionofplantgrowthandthebiologicalcontrolofsoil-borne pathogens. 1·1Sincethelargescalereleaseofgeneticallyengineeredbacteriatotheenvironmentfacesanumberofregulatoryhurdles,theneedtoisolateandselectsuperior.naturally occurringrhizospherebacteriacontinuestobeofinterest.Apartfromrhizobiasymbionts, therhizosphere-associatedbeneficialbacteriaconsistofthefollowinggenera:(I)PseudonwnasandBacillus,whichantagonizepathogenicordeleteriousmicroorganisms(biological control)and(2)bacteriathatenhanceplantgrowthdirectlysuchasA:ospirillum,Herbaspirillum, Emerobacter,Acetobacter,A:otobater,andPseudomonas,aswellasmanyunidentified rhizosphereisolates.
