ABSTRACT
Currently,almostallmolecularbiologyresearchthatisconcernedwiththegenomeis focusedonisolatingandcharacterizingindividualgenes.However,itisoftenimportant togenerateinfommtionabouttheoverallgenomicorganizationofaparticularorganism. AnumberofDNAreassociationstudieshavebeencarriedoutonplantspecies 1·4usingthe principlesandmethodologiesestablishedbyBritten,Davidson,Kohne,Wetmur,andothers.5-12Amongotherthings,theseanalysesrevealtheproportionsofthegenomicDNAthat consistofrepetitiveandsinglecopyDNAsequences,thefractionofthegenomethat''foldsback",i.e..containsinvertedrepeats,andthepatternofinterspersionbetweenrepetitive andsinglecopyDNAelements.
