ABSTRACT
In this chapter some problems regarding the selection of a condition based maintenance technique for mechanical components of dangerous and/or costly failures are discussed. A sequential method for the selection of a cost-effective technique when several policies are available is presented. In order to reduce false alarms and to identify a replacement time, a cumulative sum chart is proposed. A graphical method for the selection of a cost-effective technique and another graphical method for the estimation of the threshold level for that technique are suggested. These two methods are based on the concept of the Total Time on Test, TTT-plot.
