ABSTRACT

Albeit inclement weather often affects markets, too often insects and diseases are the culprits. The need for variable tools to battle plant diseases has in the past, and should continue in the future to change into a program approach using host genes for resistance, fungicides, and cultural practices. Additionally, there is a high interest in research into nonchemical means of controlling weeds, greater study of weed biology, efforts to implement integrated weed management practices, as well as development of biological control methods. Major trends for modern plant health products in disease control are centered around the following: new modes of action, safety concerns, new services to growers, product stewardship and fungicide resistance management, regulatory affairs/cost of registration, and new technological tools. Stewardship is the responsibility of the end user to read and follow label instructions and to the producer to provide knowledgeable management strategies.
