ABSTRACT

Because the label of a pesticide is the official, legal direction for how to use it, both the contents on that label and understanding them thoroughly are vital to the pesticide applicator. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has specific rules for what kind of information must show up on the label. Labels can become quite complex and change on a regular basis because the EPA is regularly issuing new restrictions or warnings or creates new programs that must be explained on the labels. Constantly changing label content has become a bone of contention between the agency and pesticide manufacturers, who complain that it costs them a lot of money to print up all new labels for their products on a regular basis EPA usually gives them a certain amount of time to get the products with the old labels off the market.
