ABSTRACT

Cultural practices which include manipulation and/or adjustment of crop production techniques have been as old as possibly agriculture itself. As a matter of fact, in the present day agriculture, cultural practices are being considered as essential backup methods for management of plant diseases. Procedures for disease control through cultural practices are discussed under the following three heads those are Production and use of pathogen-free planting material, Adjustment of crop culture to minimize disease and Sanitation. The main objective of adjustment of cultural practices is to plant healthy seeds in pathogen free soil and obtain a healthy stand of crop. Field and plant sanitation is a main part of disease control through cultural practices. This step is essential even if disease or pathogen free seed or propagating material has been used and other recommended cultural practices like crop rotation, alteration in date and method of sowing have been followed.
