ABSTRACT

Magnetic albumin microspheres can be prepared with serum albumin and magnetic fluid. The magnetic fluids are technical materials which have characteristics like a fluid (liquid) and magnetic properties like iron powders. Fe304 colloidal particles are evenly dispersed in several solvents, with the diameter of Fe3O4 particles in magnetic fluids about 100 to 200 Å. The shape of albumin microspheres was invariably spherical probably due to the preparation method where the inner albumin phase of w/o emulsion was immediately solidified at high temperature. AH 7974 cells were selected as a model tumor. The tumor is an ascites hepatoma which was established in Japanese albino rats injected with p-dimethylaminoazoben-zene in 1952 by investigators at the Sasaki Institute, Tokyo, Japan. Emulsion systems have been broadly used in pharmaceutical, fragrance, and food industry areas. Even in cancer chemotherapy, several kinds of emulsion formulations have been developed to find out sustained release and to improve the tissue distribution such as the lymphatic systems.
