ABSTRACT
This chapter explains the information that typically appears on a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS); using an example MSDS for a totally fictitious product - PR-20. It refers to the Material Safety Data Sheet for the compound "PR-20," which is located at the end. The chapter provides the manufacturer's name, address, and telephone number. It includes a unique chemical species description were applicable, the chemical name and formula. The chapter lists the major components and their associated hazards. It includes the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) Threshold Limit Value (TLV) and Short-Term Exposure Limit (STEL), which are guides to how toxic the chemical may be. The chapter is the "Chemical Abstract Service Number" (CAS #), which provides a key to computer based literature and technical information concerning the chemical. It contains a succint Emergency Overview to provide emergency personnel with clear, immediate information. The chapter addresses first-aid, fires and explosions, and chemical spills or releases.
