ABSTRACT

This chapter considers the likely impact of the Mathematical Modelling on NDE's (MOD'S) New Management Strategy on Royal Air Force (RAF) Maintenance Data requirements. Maintenance Data collection in the RAF, an outline is provided of developments in the RAF Maintenance Data System to reflect the changing needs of users who manage support of aircraft and equipment. The Maintenance Data Centre was formed at RAF Swanton Morley in 1969 and its raison d'etre was then, driven by the cost of equipment unreliability and associated reduction in operational effectiveness. The main advantage of the Maintenance Work Order now used in the RAF is that it replaced a number of forms in the Mathematical Modelling on NDE Form 720 series, the previous forms used for fault data collection. The Data Management project would define how logistics data should be managed between the various information systems and carry out the preliminary data management work required to support the early application projects.
