ABSTRACT

A model to predict the optical output of fluorescent optical fibres has been developed. The model is adaptable for use on fibres with different radii, length, absorption and emission spectra as well as stimulation sources of different geometries, power and spectral outputs. This paper discusses the different areas of the models development and its results are compared to an experiment using different diameters and lengths of fibre. The model shows itself as an accurate indicator of the fibres reaction to the changing of the aforementioned parameters.
