ABSTRACT

The single-curvature polyhedron hydro-bulging technology to manufacture spherical vessel can be described as follows: at first to form the sheet blanks into single-curvature petals by using rolling machines, then to assemble the petals to get an enclosed polyhedron and to bulge the polyhedron into a spherical vessel by pumping pressure media into it. Since the single-curvature polyhedron hydro-bulging technology was put forward, many spherical vessels have been manufactured, and much research work has been done, such as polyhedron structure, deformation behavior, the bulging safety-related criterions and bulging quality-related theory about the polyhedron bulging process. This paper presents the state-of-the-art of the technology and its future trends.
