ABSTRACT

A simple analytical method is extended in order to approximate average stress-average strain relationship of continuous plates subjected to combined biaxial compression and lateral pressure. The method is based on the application of the Elastic Large Deflection Analysis theory in the elastic range, and the Rigid Perfectly-Plastic Mechanism Analysis theory in the post-ultimate strength range. The ultimate strength of the continuous plate is accurately obtained using the procedure developed by the author. The validity of method is checked against FEM. The simulated average stress-average strain relationships are relatively in good correlation with FEM results.
