ABSTRACT

Urine study can provide useful and important information in animal studies in a manner similar to that in which it contributes to human health and disease evaluation. Textbooks of laboratory practice relating to veterinary medicine devote a very significant amount of attention to the importance of urine study in animal disease. The evolution of urine study in animals throughout history has paralleled that of urine study in man. Methods for urine study in animals are essentially the same as those used in humans. Thus, convenient dip-and-read multiple test systems have widespread application. Urine study in animals has several advantages over other approaches to the detection of disease or other abnormalities or the assurance of health. It provides one approach which is advantageous to the diagnosis, evaluation, and monitoring of disease. Good results in the study of urine from animals can be effectively obtained by observing the same factors and using the same practices.
