ABSTRACT
BrucellosisinswineiscausedalmostexclusivelybyBrucellasuisandiscurrently
diagnosedusingthesametestproceduresemployedforBrucellaabortus.Asdirectedby
theUniformMethodsandRules(UMR),moststatesscreen-testswinesamplesforbrucellosis
usingtheB.abortusplateagglutination(BAPA)test.Positivesamplesarethenretested
usingthebufferedbrucellaantigen(BBA)cardtest.Occasionally,card-positivesamplesare
subsequentlytestedusingtherivanolprecipitation(RIV)test,complementfixation(CF)test,
\WELL
and/orstandardtubeagglutinationtest(STI)toaidindeterminingthestatusofswinefor B.suisinfection.
