ABSTRACT

A. HEAD AND NECK TUMORS Promising results have been reported from a number of pilot studies using combined

during radiotherapy vs. radiotherapy alone.I2 The difference in survival was significantly better with bleomycin (p <0.05), even after taking other prognostic factors into account. Bezwoda et al.I3 reported on a trial which used split course radiotherapy. Half the patients received a combination of seven different chemotherapeutic agents (Price-Hill protocol), including bleomycin, the week before the start of each radiotherapy course. The results showed no significant difference in response rate, but the median duration of survival in the combination-treated group (36 weeks) was double that of the control group (18 weeks).
