ABSTRACT
This book reviews ways in which appropriate technology may overcome some of these problems. It takes a critical standpoint and tries not to be carried away by attractively simple ideas which, in fact, do not work. For example, cutting vegetation is often advocated, or even enforced, as a simple method in which the community can supposedly participate in mosquito control, though studies dating from the 1940s provide strong evidence that this procedure is useless.10
