ABSTRACT

The fabavirus group was formed by the ICTV in 1987. Viruses in the group sediment as three components, with the top component containing no RNA, the middle component ca. 25%, and bottom component ca. 34%. Particle diameters range from 25 to 30 nm. Fabaviruses are transmitted by aphids in a nonpersistent manner. In light microscope studies, crystalline inclusions of various configurations have been observed in Vicia faba cells by Rubio-Huertos, Juretic and co-workers, Milicic and co-workers, Gracia and Feldman, and Kishtah and co-workers. In thin-section studies of BBWV-infected cells, crystalline inclusions of virus particles have been reported in Vicia faba cells by Rubio-Huertos, Frowd and Tomlinson, Hull and Plaskitt, Morita and co-workers, Russo and Martelli, Hein and co-workers, Christie and Edwardson, Russo and co-workers, Vega and co-workers, Saric and co-workers, Fujisawa and co-workers and Migliori and co-workers.
