ABSTRACT

The causal agents of many legume diseases have been assumed to be viruses, but often information available on the viruses is scanty. Properties of some of the agents inducing legume diseases are so poorly understood that one wonders why viruses were assumed to be involved. Some of the diseases mentioned in this section may be induced by agents other than viruses, such as mycoplasmas. African soybean dwarf virus (ASDV) has been reported in natural infections of soybean in Nigeria. Algerian broad bean virus has been reported in natural infections of broad beans in three regions of Algeria: Sidi-Bel-Abbes, Ain-Taya, and El-Harrach. Alsike clover vein mosaic virus has been reported in natural infections of alsike clover in Sweden. Bean line-pattern mosaic virus was reported in natural infections of bean in Campinas, Brazil. Urd bean yellow mosaic virus has been reported in natural infections of urd bean and mung bean in India.
