ABSTRACT

Conservat ion till age as d e f i n e d i n t h e Resource Conservat ion G lossary (SCSA, 1982) i s "Any t i l l a g e system t h a t reduces l o s s o f s o i l o r wa te r r e l a t i v e t o conven t iona l t i l l a g e . " The l i t e r a t u r e abounds w i t h i n f o r m a t i o n on t h e e f f e c t s o f conserva t ion t i l l a g e on hydro logy and s o i l p h y s i c a l cond i t i ons . However, much o f t h e i n f o r m a t i o n i s gener i c and q u a l i t a t i v e , sometimes r e s u l t i n g i n seemingly c o n f l i c t i n g r e s u l t s . Usua l l y . apparent c o n f l i c t i n g i n f o r m a t i o n r e s u l t s f rom incomple te d a t a r e g a r d i n g l o c a t i o n , h i s t o r y , and t i m i n g o f supposedly i d e n t i c a l experiments.
