ABSTRACT
In the China expedition every required arrangement for the preservation of health was made, with the result that the mortality of this force, including wounded, was little more than 3 per cent per annum. During the first seven months of the Crimean War the mortality was at a rate of 60 per cent per annum from disease alone, a rate which exceeds that of the Great Plague in London.
