ABSTRACT

The general media reporting of these incidents has not helped to improve the consumer image of the dairy processor or of the regulatory agencies involved. The design of automated process was generally the work of system-oriented specialists in the form of consultants, equipment manufacturer engineering groups, or dairy equipment jobbers with engineering capability. Market conditions may change and suddenly personnel at the operating level are asked to do things not provided for in the original plan. For automated systems, the usefulness of that drawing will be increased through the addition of minimal information about switches, other controls, and instrumentation which interface the process to the operator and to the control system. The design of a piping system for a new milk processing facility may require 40 to 100 sheets to provide all of the information necessary for installation purposes.
