ABSTRACT

The bright red, tubular flowers of Aeschynanthus pulcher (Blume) G. Don (Gesneriaceae) which blooms in spring give it the nickname of “lipstick plant”; 5-cm flowers bloom on the 30- to 90-cm cascading stems which have medium green, 3.5-cm waxy leaves on wiry, flexible stems which reach about 20 cm in height before they cascade over the container sides. Lipstick plants are native to the jungles of Java where they grow on tree bark.
