ABSTRACT

The edible aroids include species of the genera Alocasia, Amorphophallus, Colocasia, Cyrtosperma, and Xanthosoma of the family Araceae, which are grown to a greater or lesser extent for their edible stems, tubers, corms, or leaves. Of the five genera named, Colocasia and Xanthosoma are the most widely cultivated and are economically important crops in tropical countries. 13 The plants are herbaceous with large hastate to sagittate leaves, originating from tuberous or elongated rhizomes. The most characteristic feature of the plants is the inflorescence. 1
