ABSTRACT

SSA focused on the crime scene behavior of the offenders and preserved the similarity ranking among all pairs of behaviors; this was in accord with the hypothesized four types of crime scene themes. Having identified four theoretical behavioral themes in the SSA, the next step involves testing the hypothesis that there is an order in the crime scene behavior of serial murderers. Partial Order Scalogram Analysis, (POSA) is a technique for measuring individuals — serial murderers, in this book — with respect to a multivariate attribute. An appropriate procedure in this phase of the analysis, the substantive rationale of POSA is that it seeks to uncover structural relationships between crime scene behavior and facet themes, as revealed by the SSA.
