ABSTRACT

Environmental activists are genetically selected to be independent, combative, and extreme. Environmental activists do believe that the fate of the world depends on their decisions, so they take a great deal of time in reaching their conclusions. Because any environmental activist has a veto power over the policies and actions of the other environmental activists in his organization, a tyranny of the extremes reigns in most environmental organizations. All environmental activists are afraid of success, but those with extreme positions are most afraid of success. Extreme individuals are even afraid of success among other environmental activists. Environmental activists who want to be major environmental players have to persuade their organizations to eliminate the requirement of consensus. Most environmental activists are sincere, intelligent, and deeply concerned about the future of the world. For all of their organizational and psychological limitations, environmental activists do shape the world.
