ABSTRACT

Multicast networking technology and applications can greatly benefit the financial services industry. Unlike other vertical markets for multicast technology and applications, there are clear compelling reasons in the financial services sector for all of the multicast categories of applications. Multimedia events are looked at as being an important new tool to facilitate communications between management and employees in large organizations. There are a number of non-real-time multicast applications that are of interest to the financial industry. Multicast routing protocols are used by routers in a network or internetwork to optimally route multicast packets through the network or internetwork from the source to the multiple destinations that consist of the members of the multicast group. Some multicast routing protocols are derived from distance vector or link state unicast routing protocols. All multicast routing protocols need to set up distribution trees to route datagrams to the members of the group in an optimal way.
