ABSTRACT

As the finance industry expands its deployment of open systems and embraces intranet/Internet-based computing, IS teams and network managers face an increasing challenge in ensuring that their company’s vital information is readily and constantly available. A network design based on multitiered traffic management offers the ideal solution for building a high-performance Internet and intranet infrastructure. A sophisticated software-based solution can deliver traffic prioritization, load-balancing, and service-level availability, ensuring optimized end-to-end performance on a high-availability network. By designing a network which includes the latest in traffic management solutions, the CIO and MIS department will ensure users will always have rapid access to corporate data resources, while minimizing investment in additional infrastructure purchases. Applications-based packages do not adequately consider the traffic within the entire intranet/Internet infrastructure and are not inherently compatible/testable across mixed-vendor environments. Application servers deliver critical user programs such as database and other business management services.
