ABSTRACT

Storage and handling of containerized hazardous waste in a safe and proper manner is not an intrinsically difficult task. The principles are fairly simple. Hazardous waste storage is often conducted improperly due to ignorance of the minimum regulatory requirements and a lack of forethought regarding how to perform storage. In the past, this lack of thought has resulted from the secondary nature of waste materials in a manufacturing operation. Wastes were primarily viewed as unwanted and inevitable by-products of production, to be disposed of with a minimal cost, time, and effort.
