ABSTRACT

In recent years, aerosol products have received a considerable amount of attention. The increase in commercial production of aerosol units has been phenomenal during the past 15 years because of their convenience to the user. The consumption of the aerosol products would have continued to increase were it not for the questions raised as to the possible toxicity of the aerosol products both directly to the consumer or indirectly to the entire population. The direct effects of aerosols on humans are the immediate concern of this review. Indirect effects such as the possible effects of fluorocarbon propellants on the stratosphere, resulting in an increase in incidence of skin cancer, are not within the scope of this monograph.
