ABSTRACT

This chapter provides chart and synopses of state certification and training programs comes from a survey of all the states and the District of Columbia conducted during the spring of 1993. It is meant to give a brief overview of the important parts of a state's pesticide regulatory program that directly affect pesticide users. Pesticide applicators and regulators agree that the trend in state regulation is toward more stringence. A number of states are starting to require applicators — especially those applying chemicals in structures — to have certain education or experience qualifications before they can be certified. Several states have gone ahead and created categories for private applicators as well. All states might have to do so if anticipated changes to the federal certification and training regulations take place.
