ABSTRACT

The word fungicide has originated from two latin words: viz. fungus and caedo. So literally speaking a fungicide would be any agency which has ability to kill a fungus. Such a chemical is called a "fungistat" and the phenomenon of temporary inhibition of growth is called "fungistasis". The former type of chemicals is termed as "antipenetrants" and latter as "antipathic agents". Plant species are particularly chemical composition of roots/seeds. Plant cuticle has not only high sorptive capacity for lipophilc chemicals but also a large number of binding sites for reactive chemicals. Chemicals with direct conjunction of the phosphorus atom and carbon-atom and derivatives of phosphoric acid without C-P-conjunction are all counted as organophosphorous compounds. Various chemicals which have been found to trigger host resistance mechanism and by doing so provide protection against diseases on prior or sometimes simultaneous application with the pathogen. Chemical host immunization offers potentially powerful tool in crop protection.
