ABSTRACT
Chalmersetal.•measuredAPatvariouslevelsinapeach(PrunuspersicaL.Batsch) treeduringagrowingseason,andfoundthatAPincreasedastherateoffruitgrowth increased,andthendecreasedafterthepeacheswereharvested.ChangesinAPwith sink(fruit)demandweremuchgreaterinthemiddlepartofthecanopythatcontained mostofthefruitthanatthebaseorthetopofthetree.TheyassumedthataccumulationofassimilateinleavesbeforerapidfruitgrowthandafterharvestlimitedAP.A relativelyhighspecificleafweight(SLW)ofupperleaves,evenduringtheperiodof rapidfruitgrowth,indicatedthatassimilatewasnotdepletedinthoseleavesandmay
haveremainedatinhibitorylevels.Testswith14C-labeledassimilateindicatedthat assimilateaccumulatedinleavesafterthepeacheswereharvested;timerequiredfor halfthelabeltodisappearfromtheleavesdoubledafterharvest,andAPdecreased.
