ABSTRACT

A new $80 million industrial wastewater treatment plant constructed by Tennessee Eastman Company (TEC) in Kingsport, Tennessee, is sized to treat average loadings of 25 MGD and 200,000 lb/day of BOD5. The designers of this facility put a premium on its flexibility, enabling it to respond to changes in upstream manufacturing processes, treatment efficiency, maintenance needs, as well as future treatment technology requirements. The flexibility of the plant is further enhanced by the duality of the design. All process steps have a parallel component that allows continued plant operation while maintenance is performed on an individual unit.
