ABSTRACT

The safe use of herbicides implies acceptance of an attitude of safety. To prevent power interruptions and blackouts, electric utility companies spray herbicides under powerlines for brush and woody plant control. Highway departments spray roadside brush and weeds to improve visibility and road safety; railroads spray herbicides to prevent jamming switches, rotting ties, and cargo damage from overhanging branches. Forest companies selectively "weed-out" scrub trees in favor of more productive timber and pulpwood species. Ranchers eliminate weeds and brush to open more land for cattle grazing and meat production. The quality and quantity of our food is dependent on chemical weed control. There are a number of similar drift control agents which may be added to a herbicide spray solution to control drift. Good coverage is essential to good weed control. For all types of equipment, spray tips should be selected which produce minimum droplet size consistent with the desired draft control.
