ABSTRACT
A mixed methods analysis of party documents and legislative motions shows that the protection of nature is a salient, comprehensive, and fundamental component of ideology and legislative activity for the Freiheitliche Partei Österreichs (FPÖ) of Austria. As a pioneer in Austria and within the far right party family of Western Europe, the FPÖ continues to take a leading role promoting nature protection in the Nationalrat, including during the most recent legislative periods from 2006 to 2017. This nature protection program of the FPÖ comprehensively covers agriculture, animals, conservation, economics, energy, fish, immigration, individualism, international relations, science and technology, spatial planning, traditional culture, transportation, and waste management, and many associated sub-issues. Fundamentally, the FPÖ draws from the long-established ethnic nationalist ecological framework of anti-anthropocentrism and organicism when advancing nature protection.
