ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a brief description of each of the three types of traditional, digital and crypto-marketplaces or economies. Digital economies continue to recognise the value and importance of the Venetian method, but emphasis is placed on new ways to value the assets recorded on the inventory. In digital economies, the Internet enables the development of mega-marketplaces. The modern world is gradually moving towards full digitalisation of the economy. This means that soon all economic processes will be carried out with the help of digital technologies, and this often means full automation in order to optimise economic processes. The crypto-economy is an economic system that is not defined by geographic location, legal jurisdiction or political structure. Crypto-economics imagines marketplaces without money. Bitcoin and other crypto-currencies are not necessarily better than money, but they are a better record-keeping mechanism that works across peer-to-peer networks.
